Costa Rica: meet the largest parrots in the world

I’ve searched for sloths in Costa Rica, searched and searched, and was not able to see them in the wild. I didn’t search for macaws, the largest parrots in the world… it is sometimes when you don’t search anything that you find it.

On my way to Tortuguero in Costa Rica from San José, I stopped on the side of the road. There was a tree with a couple of beautiful Scarlet macaws. They mate from January to April (my last visit to Costa Rica was in a month of March)  and nest in the holes of dead canopy trees. Searching for those during this period will help your luck to see them!

I went to walk around, when suddenly, one giant beauty flew over my head, landed in front of me, drank water and starred at me.  What a delicious moment!
