Lanzarote: walk on a lunar landscape by Guatiza

The nice thing about renting a car while traveling, is that you can stop anywhere. I mean, anywhere, go explore, get off the beaten track. And this is what happened when driving with a friend on the road on the beautiful volcanic island of Lanzarote in the Spanish Canary islands, somewhere between Guatiza and Teseguite.

“What was that?”
“I don’t know?”
“Let’s go look”

We turned the car around and stopped, and it sure felt like entering another dimension.  For an hour, we left this world, our feet got lifted into a new, unknown world, just as if we had entered the wardrobe and discovered Narnia. We seem to have encountered an erosion of tephra layers (rock fragments and particles ejected by a volcanic eruption).

“I think this is what walking on the moon would feel like”

  1. Je trouve qu’il y a un faux air avec la Bretagne, un côté celte. Si tu avais posté une photo avec un menhir ou un dolmen, je n’aurais été ni choquée ni étonnée !

  2. Moi, j’ame beaucoup Las Palmas. 🙂 Bonne jornée à vous.
