Namibia: the Solitaire mandatory stop in the desert

In the middle of the desert, the Solitaire Stop is a mandatory one! It is the ONLY gas station between the Sossusvlei dunes and the Walvis Bay coast, a 300+km road.

There, you can have coffee and cake at the Mc Gregor’s bakery. Try their famous apple pie! You can also refuel your vehicle, repair tyres, and even sleep there as there are 2 lodges. I didn’t sleep there, but had coffee and cake, and that was the best coffee I had had for a long time after being on the road for a few weeks! You can also see rusted vintage cars around.

And pssst….. they care for wildlife and the grassland/ecosystem! It is a mandatory stop just below the tropic of Capricorn 🙂

  1. Different from the average service station on the highway. Thanks for the change.
